There are a variety of character traits that we exhibit from day to day. We need to be careful to allow only those things which are good and pure and holy to shine through to those around us.
12 Potatoes Dressed Up
This object lesson was prompted by my Mr. Potato Head toys and is presented as a collection of “taters” that exhibit character traits much like humans. I purchased some fake potatoes from an on-line imitation food merchant. I have them dressed in various ways to imitate the character trait that they represent. I usually present them by name and explain what each is like, good and bad. I have a support verse from Scripture to go with each one.
Dictater—Philippians 2:3— Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
Imitater—Ephesians 5:1— Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.
Rotater—II Timothy 3:14— But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it.
Gravitater—Ephesians 4:14— Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
Commentater—Proverbs 15:7— The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not upright.
Agitater—I Timothy 6:3-4— If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 they are conceited and understand nothing.
Cogitater—I Peter 5:7— Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Spectater—James 1:22— Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Irritater—Ephesians 4:32— Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Hesitater—Proverbs 28:1— The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
Facilitater—Galatians 6:2— Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Meditater—Psalm 1:2— but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
